TANIA MOMPEROUSSE
In my Haitian culture, music is prevalent in everything that we do, from storytelling to rituals and to church services. My mother woke us up at 6am to pray, and the first
thing she would do is pull out the hymn book and sing songs and force us to join in. As we got older my mother made sure we were spiritually grounded and not going to church
on Friday nights, Saturday mornings and all day Sundays was not an option; I hated it, but this was where I found my voice.
